Description
It is often said that those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
Throughout history, humanity has experienced too many moments of profound loss brought about by war, persecution, and division. These events have affected countless lives, leaving lasting marks on individuals, families, and communities. Too may lives have been cut short because of such conflicts.
Remember is a reflection on those experiences.
This work is dedicated to the victims of violence and conflict across the world and throughout history, as well as to those who survived and carried those memories forward. It is intended to create a space for reflection, encouraging us to consider both the cost of these events and the responsibility we share in shaping a more compassionate future.
This composition was commissioned by the First Flight Middle School Seahawk Band of Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, as part of the Gizella Abramson Holocaust Education Act. This legislation supports the development of a curriculum to help students understand historical events and consider how such tragedies can be prevented in the future.
The purpose of this work is not to present a specific narrative, but to invite remembrance. Through that act, we acknowledge the past, honor those affected, reaffirm the value of human life, and hopefully set our sights on a better tomorrow.
