Description
Goblin Dance is a playful a-minor rondo for string orchestra in 6/8 time. The first violins are the stars of the rondo theme itself, but the contrapuntal interest of the accompanying lines keeps every section on its rhythmic toes throughout, and the second violins, violas, and cellos each get their own impish moments to shine melodically as well. Goblin Dance was not conceived with any specific occasion in mind but would certainly be an appropriate addition to a fall or Hallowe’en themed concert. At any time of year its tart, minor harmonies and mischievous rhythms would bring variety and tang to any string-orchestra program. In addition, the piece requires no adaptation to function nicely as a string quintet.
